Since Easter is right around the corner we decided to come up with a fun way to celebrate with your kids. Using natural non-toxic products is really important to me and its nice to know that doing crafty things doesn’t have to mean toxic chemicals. Nature provides us with amazing colours wherever you look and the natural pigment in vegetables and fruits are a great natural alternative to dye. If you’ve ever used beetroot or turmeric you’ll know they stain pretty easily and the bright colours are just perfect for making you’re own natural dyes to paint on to your easter eggs this year! I made a big colorful mess in the kitchen and got my DIY natural easter egg coloring on!
This DIY can be used as an Easter gift or a fun craft project for kids, it’s so simple.
We made blue, pink and yellow eggs but if you’d like to try more colors like brown you can use organic coffee without water.

- 2 tablespoons of turmeric
- white eggs
- distilled white vinegar
- water

- Allow to cool for 5 minutes and strain into a bowl.
- Add white eggs to a bowl and soak for 20 minutes

- Take eggs out with a spoon and place them on the paper towel. Allow to dry for 5 minutes
HOW TO MAKE YELLOW COLOR

- Add white eggs to a bowl and soak for 20 minutes
- Place a paper towel on a flat surface
- Take eggs out with a spoon and place them on the paper towel. Allow to dry for 5 minutes
HOW TO MAKE BLUE COLOR
- Simmer two cups of frozen blueberries for 10 minutes over medium heat
- Remove from heat and set aside
- Bring 4 cups of water to the boil
- Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar
- Add blueberries and simmer for 10 minutes
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes and pour into a bowl
- Add white eggs to a bowl and soak for 20 minutes
- Place a paper towel on a flat surface
- Take eggs out with a spoon and place them on the paper towel. Allow to dry for 5 minutes
Notes:
When you spoon out the eggs try not to touch them until they’re completely dry as this can create a blotchy look and the color will no longer look smooth. We used a nut milk bag to strain the juice. The longer you leave the eggs to soak in the natural dye the more vibrant the color will be. We like pastels so we left them in for a shorter period of time.
