Choc-Mint is probably one of my favourite flavours, along with the classic vanilla. But Choc-Mint probably makes you think of ice-cream or milkshakes right? Well, i don’t eat ice-cream or milkshakes as most foods like that are not on my whole-foods list. So, I set out on a mission to create a Choc-Mint Smoothie that was healthier than the classic milkshake or ice-cream, just to satisfy my choc-mint sweet tooth and hopefully yours too!
I started out with what seemed like the super clean version of this smoothie but my taste testers didn’t really approve, although I still thought it was nice! I used cucumber, mint, avocado, banana, coconut milk and coconut water. However I thought maybe it needed to be a little sweeter with a creamier consistency so I added some cashews and vanilla protein powder which made for a much more decadent smoothie with that sweet vanilla ice cream kind of flavour!
I think i’ve mentioned that I use Nuzest Pea Protein Powder at the moment, it adds a nice flavour to my smoothies and seems to have a better texture than some rice protein powders. Ideally i’d like to make my own DIY protein powder recipe for you, using nuts and seeds – I’m working on it! I also like Hemp Protein powder but have only tried one brand.
Why is this smoothie a better choice than a milkshake or choc-mint icecream?
I have used the good fats! Avocado is the king of good fats, along with coconut of course. I’ve also skipped on the sugar and used banana, cacao nibs instead of chocolate and some clean, sugar-free vanilla protein powder to provide some extra sweetness. If you wanted to super-charge this smoothie you could add some extra greens to it like spinach, cucumber, spirulina or cos lettuce which has quite a mild flavour. And of course this smoothie version of a choc-mint shake is dairy-free.
You could also turn this smoothie into a Popsicle by pouring it into ice-cream molds and freezing. I”m going to try this too! Hope you enjoy!
