Cold-Pressed Antioxidant Cooler NourishAndInspireMe

nourishinspiremeJanuary 6, 2014October 27, 2022

Today i’m sharing another beauty food with you. A juice packed with antioxidants to brighten your skin, protect against heart disease and also cancer. The darker/red pigment in fruits and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants such as anthocyanin, polyphenols and tannins. You will find these kind of antioxidants in foods like goji berries, red wine, cherries, blueberries, red cabbage, eggplant and kidney beans.

Why are antioxidants so important for our health?

Oxidative stress in the body can be caused by stress, poor diet, alcohol, acidity, or pollution in the environment. Too much oxidisation in the body can result in free radicals. Free radicals are unstable groups of atoms that are missing an electron so they go searching around the body trying to steal electrons wherever they can. This can cause damage to your cells and DNA and lead to many diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic fatigue, alzheimers and can also be a factor in aging.

Eating foods high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals such as selenium can help to stabilise these free radicals before they damage your cells.

For this recipe I have used black grapes, although you could use red grapes. I also used Pomegranates, they are such a yummy fruit! I first tried pomegranate juice at a Persian restaurant and loved it! It’s sweet but also has a cleansing and refreshing quality. I’ve only used ½ a cup as it has quite a strong flavour and sugar content – something to be mindful of when using pomegranates or any fruit really.

As you probably know coconut and cucumbers are super hydrating – this is important for glowing skin!

This drink would be perfect for a hot summers day or as a mocktail. I hope you enjoy it!

 What you need:

  1. 1 pomegranate or ½ cup pomegranate juice
  2. 30 red grapes
  3. 2 cucumbers + 1 for garnish
  4. Juice of 1 lime + 1 lime for garnish
  5. 1 cup coconut water
  6. ice

Juice the following in your cold pressed juicer:

  • Pomegranate
  • Grapes
  • Cucumbers
  • 1 lime (skin removed)
  • Add coconut water to the juice jug contents and stir well
  • Add ice to each glass, a lime wedge and a few slices of cucumber
  • Top up glasses with juice jug contents
