Mimosa with Kombucha and Spirulina a great hangover cure

nourishinspiremeJanuary 2, 2014October 27, 2022

Some of you may have sore heads today if you had a few too many glasses of champagne to ring in the New Year. So, today i’m sharing a little hangover remedy with you.

Aside from the obvious hangover cures like hydrating coconut water, filtered water and a nice big sleep in, kombucha might be one you haven’t heard of. We’ve made our Kombucha into a “Mimosa” for you, minus the champagne of course! Kombucha is a fermented drink – made from sugar. Be sure to buy the kombucha with no added sugar or low sugar. I used Remedy Kombucha which is only 1% sugar. The Ginger-Lemon flavour is my favourite.

Kombucha is full of good bacteria for your tummy. Consuming fermented foods high in probiotics is important to balance and restore the beneficial bacteria in your gut. These good bacteria are the foundation for our immune system.

The enzymes and acids in Kombucha are detoxifying for your body so will kick your hangover to the curb! We added some Spirulina for further detoxification. Spirulina is also very alkaline, amongst it’s many other beneficial nutrients like minerals, antioxidants, omega-3’s and vitamins including vitamin B.

What you need:

  • Kombucha 1.5 cups – I used a low sugar Ginger & Lemon flavour from Remedy Kombucha
  • Orange juice 1 cup – freshly squeezed
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tsp spirulina or green powder
  • small handful fresh mint
  • Serves 2

How to Make:

  • Juice fresh orange juice and pour into blender
  • Blend with mint, spirulina and lemon juice until smooth and frothy
  • Pour blender contents evenly into 2 separate glasses
  • Top each glass up evenly with the kombucha
  • Serve

Looking forward to sharing 2014 with you all – there are many great things to come!
