Paleo Pure – The best muesli

The supermarket shelves are loaded with muesli options, often claiming health benefits that, in my mind, don’t fit the ingredients list on the packet. Some muesli’s are filled with sugar, loads of dried fruit and vegetable oils. The consumption of grains is showing to be contributing to many health issues and that’s why so many people are turning to a Paleo, grain-free lifestyle.

Paleo Pure is a muesli that i know i can pick up off the shelf and trust that i’m getting the highest quality ingredients, with a deliciously healthy, and i have to say, MORE-ISH reward!! Today we meet the gorgeous girls behind Paleo Pure, Emma & Nicole and we talk Paleo, balancing family life with a growing business and interesting ways to use your muesli other than for breakfast!

What prompted you girls to start Paleo Pure?

Emma – I think we both share the same values in terms of how pure and simple food needs to be and how it impacts our bodies when digested. We both share a passion for well being and have so many ideas that we started sharing. I had been making the muesi for myself and friends for many months and then after Nicole tried some, she was hooked as well! We really compliment each other and have so many great ideas that we want to share. Our partnership has really just grown organically..

Nicole – I’ve always been a “foodie” and clinically see soo much digestive disruption – driven by diet choices. So when I connected with Emma it just worked. We’re really excited about developing more products that are delicious and “functional”.

What is a Paleo Diet and why is it so good for our health?

Emma – I am not a fan of the word diet, it conjures up negative connotations…like we are missing out on something. Leading a paleo lifestyle is far from that. I think for so many people this is a wide and varied thing. In it’s most basic form..it is a lifestyle where food is seen as fuel. Paleo includes grass fed and pastured meats and eggs, plenty of seasonal vegetables and leafy greens, plenty of good fats, nuts & seeds in moderation and a little fruit. We exclude all refined sugars, all processed food, all grain & legumes and dairy. If that sounds all a little hard…it’s not. My mantra is JUST EAT REAL FOOD. It’s that simple. Leading a paleo lifestyle also means getting plenty of sleep and some form of basic movement to maintain strength. Given we are eating only foods that our bodies were designed to eat..there’s little negative impact on our digestive system. This is probably a question best answered by Nicole, but for our family, it means healthy happy people. No digestve problems which can lead to so many other horrid things.

Nicole – the ethos is simple eating as close to nature as possible. Convenience has replaced food – and switching to “food product” over food – in the long run becomes very inconvenient ! !

How does Paleo Pure differ from most cereals/mueslis?

Emma – Our muesli is 100% grain free. So it’s not just another gluten free muesli..it is organic, baked and grain free and does not taste like a cardboard box. It’s made with real ingredients. I think I am fairly safe to say we are the first baked grain free muesli on the market..and proud of it.

Nicole – ditto

Aside from a healthy breakfast muesli, how else do you use your Paleo Pure muesli’s?

Emma – in our house…we very rarely eat muesli for breakfast. We use it in a minimal way, sprinkled on top of fried bananas, we use the raw blend to roll chicken thighs in and then fry or bake, I make the kids a delicous snack in a glass stacked with home made coconut yoghrt and berries and my latest obsession is roasted punpkin and bacon soup and I sprinkle the Cranberry Nutmeg blend on top. Yum!Nicole – I’m similar to Emma here also ….. I also enjoy eating it just on it’s own with nothing added!! However I eat it for breakfast with 1/2 coconut 1/2 almond milk especially when I’m in a hurry.

How do you juggle kids, work and a growing business?

Emma – I have very big hands! At the moment..it is a very big juggle. Especially considering we prepare and cook all meals at home. At the moment in our growth and expansion phase, it means working weekends as well as full time during the week. It means saying yes when well meaning in laws offer to cook dinner some nights for the kids. Nicole and I are both working mums so we have a very simple approach with each other. We get to the point and we don’t fluff around..we just get the job done. We are very fortunate to have the support by our amazing husbands who help out where needed at home and at work. My husband Frankie has just started working in the business too so it is quickly becoming a family affair which is great. I think the key to being so successful..is planning and preparation. I use the same approach to the business as I do with our food at home. Preparation.

Nicole – hmmmm it’s definitely a challenge to find that balance in life…… And it’s essential to energetically have the right people in your life that you gel with, so daily business isn’t overwhelming. Also we both have very supportive families.

What delicious flavours does Paleo Pure come in?

Emma – Blueberry & Cinnamon, Cranberry & Nutmeg, Apple & Cinnamon, Paleo Fruit Free, Low Fructose Fruit Free (this is made using rice malt syrup – no fructose) and also Raw. We also have a range of Muesli Cluster coming out soon which is exciting..so stay tuned!

Where can we buy Paleo Pure?

Emma – You can order direct from us on www.paleopure.com.au or all Leo’s Food stores, Aunt Maggies and other speciality food stores across Australia.
