Cantaloupe, Basil & Berry Juice – NourishAndInspireMe

nourishinspiremeJanuary 16, 2014October 27, 2022

A refreshing juice with a twist!

Right now in Melbourne, Australia we’re going through a sizzling heatwave! It’s been almost 5 days of 40 degree plus heat! So we’re covering up windows, keeping doors shut, drinking mineral water like it’s going out of fashion and i’m positioned nicely in front of the fan, reluctant to move!

I don’t know about you, but when it’s hot my body doesn’t have the energy to eat heavy meals. So i juice, i blend and i make salads!

Today i used 3 ingredients in my fridge to make a juice: basil, cantaloupe and berries. I knew basil went with some fruits but i didn’t know it went so well with Cantaloupe! So yum!

Cantaloupe’s are a great source of immune boosting vitamin C and A. I love cold cantaloupe in summer, so refreshingly sweet! My mum drank cantaloupe juice when we were young and i haven’t juiced a cantaloupe since then. I think i’ll definitely be doing it more often! And maybe sneakily picking some basil leaves from our neighbour’s herb garden! (It’s ok she encourages us to use her herb garden, but i still sneak over there to pick it for some reason!)

Basil is actually very healthy for you. It’s anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, rich in vitamin A, vitamin K, minerals such as manganese and potassium and many antioxidants. What a nutrient beast!

Of course you all know that berries are also high in antioxidants to keep your heart, skin and immune system healthy.

What you need:

  • half a cantaloupe
  • 1 handful basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup raspberries
  • 1/2 cup strawberries
  • 1 cup ice

serves 2

How to make:

  • Juice cantaloupe in your cold pressed juicer
  • Blend cantaloupe juice with basil, berries and ice until smooth and frothy!
  • Serve with more ice if you desire

I hope you enjoy this Juice and all you Melbournians are surviving the heat ok!

Keep drinking fluids and rest up!
