The only almond milks you should buy
Almond Milk is so trendy right now, with lot’s of people avoiding dairy to fit in with Vegan, Paleo, allergies or other special diets. Almond has over taken the once popular dairy-free milk soy and even cafe’s are jumping on the band wagon and serving almond milk lattes, I love it!
I’m not a fan of soy, apart from the fact that it’s a genetically modified crop, it also contains phytoestrogens that can mess with your hormones and thyroid gland. When i was 18 i moved to the USA and began drinking soy milk. I had no idea what i was getting myself into but i came back to Australia with a Hyperthyroid which i attributed to the Soy milk i’d introduced to my diet, amongst other things.
The UHT almond milk you buy in most supermarkets is rubbish. Number one, the taste is incomparable to fresh, homemade almond milk and they also are most likely rancid or off, there are fewer actual almonds and more water, vegetable oils, carageenan which is a GIT irritant, and added sugar.
Of course it’s easy to make your own almond milk at home and you can see my recipe here for lavender almond milk. However, when you’re pressed for time or on the go, these are the only types of almond milks you should put in your shopping basket. They’re raw, unpasteurised, fresh, have zero sugar and contain much more goodness from almonds than the long-life versions. They only last 4-6 days in the fridge but it’s well worth it!!
These products are the ones i’ve found in melbourne, you’re sure to find a similar product in your town.
